 Getting To Know Us
The Seventh-day Adventist K-8 school in Chico was established in 1905 to provide high-quality Christian education to children in our community. Over the years, the name and location have changed, but our purpose has not.
Our Mission
We are committed to promoting...
  • Christian values
  • Academic excellence
  • Responsible citizenship
...in an environment where success is measured one student at a time.
Our Promise
We are guided by Jesus’ words. "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind… Love your neighbor as you love yourself." (Matthew 22:37-39, Good News Bible)
We set high expectations. We hire excellent teachers. We expect parents to participate. And together, we create learning environments where each student can reach his or her full potential.
We value people and our environment. Our students demonstrate courtesy and respect. They take pride in their school. They contribute to our community.
Christian Values
Our specific goals regarding Christian values are for each student:
  • To recognize God as a personal being who loves and cares for him or her as an individual;
  • To develop an understanding of the scriptures appropriate to his or her maturity;
  • To become conversant with the teachings of Jesus and learn to apply them in daily living, and
  • To recognize God as the Creator and Author of truth.
Academic Excellence
Our specific goals regarding academic excellence are for each student:
  • To master the basic skills of reading, writing, speaking, spelling, and mathematics;
  • To become acquainted with the appropriate common knowledge of history, literature, science and fine arts;
  • To develop critical thinking skills, and
  • To recognize and respect his or her own mental, physical, and spiritual gifts and to strive for excellence in their development.
Responsible Citizenship
Our specific goals regarding responsible citizenship are for each student:
  • To respect others, regardless of their abilities, appearance, age, gender, or heritage,
  • To recognize the dignity of work, and
  • To experience the joy of service.
High Quality Education
Quality education is something all parents look for, but is sometimes hard to quantify. Here are some indicators we think might help you in evaluating the education your child would receive at Chico Oaks Adventist School.
  • All teachers hold bachelor’s or master’s degrees and participate in an ongoing in-service program to remain current with educational issues. In addition, most have extensive postgraduate education.
  • Our low student/teacher ratio allows teachers to spend more time with each student.
  • Our school is accredited by the National Council for Private School Accreditation. In addition, our Christian curriculum is accredited by the Northern California Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. It includes class work in all major subject areas: Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Bible, Computer Education, Physical Education, Art and Music.
  • Textbooks are selected from well-known, national publishers such as Houghton-Mifflin, Ginn, Scott Foresman and Macmillan/McGraw-Hill.
  • Computers are located in each classroom.
  • Individualized instruction is provided and students are always under excellent supervision.
  • Our beautiful facility includes a well-stocked library with an annual budget for expanding our collection.
  • Students learn experientially through field trips, outdoor education excursions and community service projects.
  • Our curriculum is developed in cooperation with the education department of the Northern California Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. As an organization, Adventists have a great deal of experience in education – they operate the second-largest private educational system in the world.
Positive Learning Environment
  • Our school environment is safe. Students can concentrate on learning without other distractions.
  • Our teachers are not only academically qualified to teach, but also love students and are dedicated to teaching.
  • We emphasize educating the whole student – academically, socially, spiritually, physically. We believe that school should support parents in instilling Christian values and ethics.
  • Worship and prayer are integrated into the school day and teachers encourage the Christian principles of honesty, fairness, love for God, and respect for others.
  • You, as parents, will be informed and involved in your child’s education – through regularly scheduled parent/teacher conferences, a weekly newsletter, notes and phone calls. In addition, parents are welcome to make appointments to visit the classrooms throughout the school year.
  • We believe that, in the formation of character, no other influence counts as much as the influence of the home. The teacher’s work should supplement that of parents, but it is not to take its place. In all that concerns the well being of the child, it should be the effort of parents and teachers to cooperate.
